Current

AI Engineer, Computech Limited

Nairobi, Kenya · Graduate Management Trainee programme

Shipping production systems used by executives and field teams, owning each one from the data model through to the screen the decision is made on.

  • Built BidBuddy, an end-to-end internal bid management platform that captures opportunities from six procurement portals: tenders.go.ke, eGP Kenya, KRA, KPLC, KenyaRe and TenderSure.
  • Designed a weighted qualification scorecard for BidBuddy so bid or no-bid is argued from a consistent set of criteria rather than from whoever is loudest in the room.
  • Implemented a sequential CRO to CGO approval chain feeding senior management decisions, with each stage recorded so an approved bid carries the reasoning that got it there.
  • Stack for BidBuddy: Next.js 16 and FastAPI over PostgreSQL on Supabase, with Microsoft Entra ID single sign-on and Docker for deployment.
  • Built a leave management system on top of the Horilla open source HRMS, serving employees across five countries.
  • Modelled country-specific leave policies in that system: statutory entitlements, accrual and carry-forward rules, separate public holiday calendars, and the approval hierarchy each country actually uses, so a single deployment serves five sets of employment law without a fork per country.
  • Delivered employee self-service for balances and requests alongside manager and HR dashboards for approvals, team coverage and reporting, with an audit trail behind every state change because leave records are the kind that get disputed months later.

2025 to 2026

Junior Full Stack Engineer, iLab Africa

Nairobi, Kenya

Built and maintained web platforms for government and research programmes, working across the Laravel backend and the Vue single page applications on top of it.

  • Worked on the Kenya Public Procurement Information Portal, the platform government tenders are published and managed through, held to 99.9% uptime for operations that cannot pause.
  • Designed and implemented server side logic in Laravel against SOLID principles and the PSR standards, so the codebase stayed legible to whoever picked it up next.
  • Built and consumed RESTful APIs feeding Vue.js single page applications, with Pinia for state and Tailwind for the interface layer.
  • Designed MySQL schemas and tuned the queries and indexes behind them, treating a measured query plan as the input to optimisation rather than a guess about what is slow.
  • Covered work with PHPUnit at the unit level and Cypress end to end, writing the failing test before the fix so the test was proven to catch the thing it claimed to.
  • Deployed and operated on Linux with Docker and CI/CD pipelines, including horizontal pod autoscaling on Kubernetes for traffic that arrives in bursts around tender deadlines.

Software Engineering Intern, iLab Africa

Backend development and interface implementation on internal tools, alongside junior and senior engineers.

  • Built and published an open source Vue component that formats numbers with separators as the user types while holding cursor position, which became my first npm package.
  • Contributed backend features in Laravel, working to the review standards of the wider team.
  • Implemented responsive interfaces with the design team, translating layouts into components rather than one-off pages.

2023 to 2024

Data Annotator, CloudFactory

Remote

Labelling and categorising text and image datasets for machine learning and computer vision training pipelines.

  • Located, labelled and categorised elements across large textual and visual datasets against a defined specification.
  • Implemented and followed annotation procedures that kept output consistent across annotators, which is the whole value of the work at scale.
  • Reported and documented defects in the annotation tooling and the process itself, including cases where the specification was ambiguous rather than the annotation wrong.

Freelance Web Engineer, Self-employed

Custom sites and dashboards for small businesses, owning the work end to end from build through to ongoing support.

  • Built responsive sites and dashboards in React and Tailwind CSS.
  • Integrated third party payment and analytics APIs.
  • Provided ongoing maintenance, which is where I learned what a codebase feels like six months after you have forgotten it.
